A 20-year-old Cheyenne transient is facing a felony charge after admittedly stabbing a man with a steak knife.

Police say it all started around 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, when they were called to a stabbing at West 27th Street and Snyder Avenue, and arrived to find Lavelle Brown had been stabbed in the back.

Police say Brown had a one-inch puncture wound under his left shoulder blade and his entire left side was covered in blood.

Elizabeth Martinez reportedly told police that she, Brown, and Dominic McCray arrived at 2702 Synder Ave., and Alexandria Gunn was waiting in the camper that Gunn and Brown lived in together.

Gunn was reportedly smashing the camper's windows and yelling because she was upset with Brown for having sex with Shauna Denecke, and when Gunn tried to leave with Brown's laptop, Brown told her to give it back and the two both started pulling on it.

Brown then reportedly yelled that someone stabbed him, and when Martinez asked if it was Gunn, Brown said it was Denecke.

McCray, who reportedly sat in the car because he didn't want to be involved in the altercation, told police that he heard Brown yell that someone stabbed him and saw Denecke leave the area and throw something in the front yard.

Denecke was located near West 21st Street and Dillon Avenue and reportedly told police that Brown hit her on the head and knee with a metal pipe.

She was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for jail clearance, and while at the hospital reportedly told police that she had just met Gunn for the first time earlier that day.

Denecke said she told Gunn, who told Denecke that Brown had put his hands on her before and that she was four weeks pregnant, that she would protect her if Brown put his hands on her again.

Denecke also reportedly told Gunn that she previously had sex with Brown but she did not know at the time that they were dating and said that Gunn said she already knew Brown was having sex with other women and wanted to confront him about it.

Denecke said she was waiting in the garage when Brown arrived back at the residence and went into the camper where Gunn was waiting for him.

She then heard Gunn yelling at Brown not to touch her, and the two eventually came out of the camper where Brown started yelling at Gunn to leave his laptop and they both started pulling back and forth on a bag Gunn was holding.

Denecke said when Brown got behind Gunn and wrapped his arms around Gunn's shoulders and neck, she stabbed him with a steak knife. She then left, throwing the knife in the front yard.

Denecke was subsequently charged with aggravated assault.

Her bond was set at $3,000 cash and her preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 16 at 10:30 a.m.
