Cheyenne Teens Suspected of Setting Fire That Destroyed Homes
A fire that ripped through two adjacent homes in north Cheyenne last Wednesday is believed to have been set by two teenage boys, investigators say.
Cheyenne Fire Rescue says firefighters were called to the scene in the 100 block of Longs Peak Drive at 12:18 p.m. and arrived to find flames and heavy smoke coming from the homes with the fire quickly gaining in size.
"The corners of the roof of each house showed signs of partial collapse already occurring," CFR said in a press release Friday.
"Limited access, wind, heavy smoke, building partial collapse and a natural gas leak all impacted the incident," CFR added.
CFR says crews were able to rescue a dog from one of the homes and no injuries were reported.
On Monday, the Laramie County Sheriff's Office announced that its arson investigators, in cooperation with CFR, had looked into the cause of the blaze and determined it started in the alley behind the homes.
"As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old male juvenile and a 15-year-old male juvenile were identified as suspects," the LCSO said in a press release.
"The juveniles live in Cheyenne and do not have a connection to the victims," the LCSO added. "Due to juveniles being involved, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing their names."
Brandon Warner, Community Relations Specialist for the LCSO, says no arrests have been made at this time.
"The case will be forwarded to the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office for potential charges," the LCSO said.
