A 29-year-old Cheyenne man is facing up to 10 years in federal prison after being found guilty of felon and unlawful user in possession of a firearm, United States Attorney Nick Vassallo's Office announced Friday.

Devon Jonathan Souza, also known as Devon Jonathan Swan, was convicted on Wednesday, May 10, following a trial held before United States District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson in Cheyenne.

According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Souza was arrested on Sept. 1, 2021, after Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers tried to pull him over for known warrants and a chase ensued.

When law enforcement officers returned to Souza's vehicle they found a loaded Ruger pistol in a bag.

Souza also tested positive for methamphetamine while in custody.

Souza's sentencing is scheduled for June 26 at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to the 10-year prison term, Souza is also facing up to a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.
