Cheyenne, Laramie Could See 5-7 Inches Of Snow, More In Mountains

Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings have been posted for much of southeast Wyoming today and tonight.

That's according to the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service. The agency posted the following on its website:

Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning headlines have been expanded for your Friday forecast. Light snowfall accumulations outside of the winter headlines are expected, but impacts will not be as high. Expect rapidly deteriorating conditions this afternoon when snow showers become locally heavy at times. Some areas could see snowfall rates of 1 inch or more per hour this afternoon in the heaviest snow bands that occur east of the Laramie Range. 2 to 5 inches can be expected in the Advisory areas, with locally higher amounts possible where snow bands persist longer. Higher amounts of 6 or more inches are expected in the Winter Storm Warning headlines.

Snow showers likely before 11pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 7. Wind chill values between zero and 5. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Sunny, with a high near 37. Wind chill values between zero and 10. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Snow showers likely before 11pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 3. Wind chill values between -5 and zero. East wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Wyoming Black History in Pictures

Some of these pictures are part of a collection of photographs and negatives created and used by the Casper Star Tribune from 1967 until the middle of 1995 according to a newspaper article on the donation from February of 2000. In the words of Special Collections Curator, Kevin Anderson, the photographs serve to document "events in our own lives, events in our own history." Others come from a collection of photographs of people who lived in Casper's Sand Bar as found in the Walter R. Jones Papers available in and through the repository. Many others came from the Casper College Western History Center and the Wyoming State Archives from a wide-variety of original sources.
