A bill that would repeal most gun-free zones for people who can legally carry concealed weapons in Wyoming has been filed for the 2023 legislative session.

You can read House Bill 105 here. The bill is sponsored by Reps. Haroldson, Allemand, Angelos, Bear, Jennings, Knapp, Locke, Niemiec, Pendergraft, Penn, Rodriguez-Williams, Smith, Strock, Tarver, Ward and Winter and Senator(s) Biteman, Case, Hutchings, Laursen, D and Steinmetz.

The bill would not keep private property owners from barring guns on their property.

But it would allow people who are legally allowed to carry a concealed weapon to carry a gun into governmental meetings, including the Wyoming State Legislature as well as local and state governmental meetings.

People could also carry weapons  into

''(i)  Any public school, public college or university or professional athletic event, except as provided in W.S. 21‑3‑132;

 (ii)  Any public elementary or secondary school facility, except as provided in W.S. 21‑3‑132;

 (iii)  Any public college or university facility.''

And while the carrying of guns into schools would be allowed, school districts would still have the authority to prohibit school employees from carrying guns on district property.

The bill would specifically say that only the state legislature has the right to regulate firearms in the state.

Gun rights advocates have been trying for years to pass similar bills in the Wyoming Legislature, so far without success.
