Residents of Albany County will go to the polls on Tuesday to decide the fate of projects proposed for funding through the optional sixth penny sales tax.

Under Wyoming law, voters can decide to approve an optional 6th penny county wide sales tax on every dollar for special projects. It's important to note that the tax can only be used for capital projects and not operating costs for government agencies.

While it is officially known as the Wyoming Specific Purpose Excise tax, it is usually referred to as the "sixth penny tax" in everyday conversation. You can see sample ballots for Tuesday's vote here.

"For 2026 and future elections, Albany County will be using vote centers instead of traditional precinct based polling places. Vote centers allow voters to cast a ballot at any open voting location within the county, regardless of where they live. This provides greater flexibility and convenience, especially for voters with work, family, or travel commitments."

Medicine Bow Wyoming Road Art

There’s a strange mind at work in Medicine Bow. Someone equal parts disturbed and delighted, scheming and laughing at the same time. And somehow, they want to pull you into the fun.
