Public Information Officer Alex Farkas says the women, who police aren't identifying at this time, were traveling east in a Dodge Nitro at a high rate of speed when they rear-ended a Jeep Gladiator Mojave.

Farkas says the women sustained serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

Fortunately, the driver of the Jeep was not injured in the crash.

"The case is still under investigation by the CPD's traffic unit," Farkas told KGAB Radio on Thursday.

Farkas says driver impairment and excessive speed are being looked at as possible contributing factors.
