2 Arrested on Murder Charges in 15-Year-Old Cheyenne Girl’s Death
Two Cheyenne teens have been arrested in connection with last month's shooting at Lincoln Park which left a 15-year-old Cheyenne girl dead, police announced late Tuesday afternoon.
Public Information Officer Alex Farkas says officers were called to the park located at 315 E. 8th Street at 12:23 a.m. on Sunday, April 30, and arrived to find the girl with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
She was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where she died the following day.
"Through the investigation, detectives learned that a group of individuals – friends and family members of the victim – were at Lincoln Park playing basketball together at the time of the shooting," Farkas said in a news release.
"According to statements, an SUV was traveling west on East 7th Street, driving past the park," Farkas added. "While the vehicle was driving by, multiple shots were fired, and the SUV fled from the scene."
On Tuesday, May 9, detectives in partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force arrested two boys -- a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old -- on charges related to the case.
The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and the 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and aiding and abetting first-degree murder.
Both are being held in the Laramie County Juvenile Detention Center.
Farkas did not know if the boys would be charged as adults.
Farkas says police are still investigating the case, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
