1 Killed, 2 Injured After Driver Falls Asleep on I-90 in Wyoming
One person was killed and two others were injured in a single-vehicle crash in Campbell County early Friday morning, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.
The crash happened around 12 a.m. at milepost 142.8 on Interstate 90, about 17 miles east of Gillette.
According to a fatality crash summary, a Toyota was headed east when the driver fell asleep, causing the vehicle to veer off the right side of the interstate.
"The Toyota subsequently encountered a water-filled ditch, where it collided with the far side of the ditch, and finally came to a stop beyond the ditch," the summary reads.
A passenger in the vehicle, 79-year-old China resident Haigui Sun, was not wearing a seat belt and died from their injuries.
The driver and another passenger were also reportedly injured in the crash, but the summary did not say to what extent.
This is the second fatality at milepost 142.8 on I-90 this month -- 18-year-old Wyoming resident Ayden Kniffen was killed in a rollover crash there on July 2 -- and the fourth fatality on I-90 so far this year.
