The Laramie High School track team will compete at the 2024 Wyoming High School State Track Championships in Casper, Thursday through Saturday. Laramie has 27 qualifiers for this year's state track meet. There are 15 girls and 12 boys.

Laramie finished fifth in the girls' standings and sixth in the boys' at the 4A East Regional track meet last weekend in Cheyenne. They had two individual champions, Lainey Berryhill in the 800 meters and Gideon Moore in the 3200 meters. One relay, the girls' 4x800, finished first, as well.

KOWB's David Settle visited with senior Addie Forry and sophomore Flynn Arnold ahead of the state track meet. Forry described the feeling of entering the final state championship of her prep career and discussed her four events. Arnold explained how he's feeling ahead of his four events, and what he learned from last year that can help him at this year's championships. That's in the video at the top of this story.

Laramie head coach Greg Schabron is very happy with the number of qualifiers (27) they have going this year.

"That's a pretty high number this year, especially considering our region this year (and how difficult it was). We're happy with that, and looking at the kids that are going, the younger kids that are going will return with all that experience next year."

Schabron feels they'll likely focus on the relays to have as much team success as possible.

"Those relays are running well. A lot of them are school record relays, kind of the top three in the state, so we're hoping to keep that going this week."

He pointed to the success of Berryhill, Moore, and even Arnold in the open 400 meters, as their best shot for individual title winners this year.

The state track championships start at 3 p.m. on Thursday. The track meet runs from 9 a.m. to about 6 p.m. on Friday. The final day is Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m., and should be finished around 4:30 p.m. You can find more details at
