Laramie Football Begins Practice In A Different Position [VIDEO, PHOTOS]
Practice for the 2025 high school football season started on Monday for the Laramie Plainsmen under second-year Head Coach Jake Chick. The Plainsmen have three weeks to prepare for their season-opener at home against Cheyenne East on Friday, August 29, 2025. Laramie is one of the more experienced teams in Class 4A with eight returning starters on offense and seven back on defense.
LHS finished last season at 2-8 and lost in the first round of the 4A football playoffs to state champion Sheridan, 48-6. Call that a baseline for the Plainsmen under Chick. Laramie established various aspects of its philosophy and style of play in the 2024 season. Now, the Plainsmen look to take the next step.
Day 1 of this year was different, said Coach Chick on Monday, and I think it’s comfort.
“The kids have an expectation from us, and vice versa. Not only do we have that relationship now with one another, but we have an idea of the team we could have been last year, we have a better focus on the team we’re going to be this year. We tried to do all sorts of stuff (last season), myself included, in the first year you’re trying to come up with everything possible to be a winner, and sometimes simple is best, and right now, we’re keeping things simple; minds are sharp; and the focus is really high.”
Chick told KOWB’s David Settle that senior A.J. Sirdoreus has stepped into a leadership role for the team.
He and QB Dax Parvin spoke with KOWB on Monday. Sirdoreus touched on how he grew as a leader, his focus early in fall camp, and what this team needs to do during the first week of fall camp. Parvin said the reps he’ll get as QB1 are new, he feels he’s improved on the little details of the game, and being vocal will help Laramie’s offense.
The Plainsmen are going through two-a-day practices through Thursday. They will practice on Friday morning before a fundraising effort on Friday afternoon.
KOWB Radio (AM 1290) will air every Laramie Plainsmen football game for the 2025 season. You can listen via the radio, online, through our KOWB app, and even through smart speakers like Amazon Alexa or Google Home devices. David Settle (27th season) and Aaron Lozano (7th season) provide the coverage.
