If you're a hunter, there are a few things that may be on your bucket list for harvesting.

  • Grizzly Bear - could happen in Wyoming in the next couple years
  • Mountain Lion - possible all over Wyoming
  • Mountain Goat - coveted license isn't easy to get
  • Moose - some wait for long periods of time to have a chance for a moose hunt in Wyoming
  • Bison - only a few places in Wyoming you can hunt and the license can be difficult to secure.

One way you can get a coveted bison hunt is to go through a ranch, with private guides and on private land.

Many bison ranches throughout the state offer these private hunts or 'meat harvest'. The bison are roaming wild and are mostly raised for meat production.

One of those ranches that is part of raising bison in the state, is managed by History Channel's Mountain Men star, Josh Kirk. Josh hosted and guided outdoor enthusiast Michael Clutch Lambert, from Thunderstone Wilderness Ventures, on a rare chance to harvest a large bison.

Thunderstone Wilderness Ventures, is a YouTube channel that offers tips, tricks and outdoor adventures. They also offer custom courses and adventures for folks looking to have that outdoor experience.

Ranches will use opportunities like the one Lambert had, to make extra money for the ranch and give the experience to someone that has the means to cross an item off their bucket list.

During their visit and whole experience, Josh was never far away. He made sure they picked the right bison and were safe. Even though the bison are on a ranch and inside a fence, that doesn't mean they are tame. These massive creatures can move quickly, are tough and have quick tempers.

Once the bison were picked, they were able to harvest them. All parts of the bison were put to good use. The meat was taken for consumption and the rest of the parts were taken for other uses. According to Michael, none of the animal was wasted.

Special thanks to Grandpa Rich of Thermopolis Wyoming for these photos.

Each morning Grandpa drives up to check on the herd in Hot Springs County Wyoming.

As he drives around he takes photos and sends them to me.

An audience of 1 is not enough.

That's why I'm sharing them with you.
