From time-to-time, you need to be reminded of how crappy people can be, and the reminder may come at the expense of a loved one.

Staying vigilant and paying attention to the calls that come to your phone is so important. Scammers will try anything to trick you into giving them your money.

The Natrona County Sheriff's Office is warning of scammers once again trying to impersonate a deputy and dupe you into giving them gift cards to places like Walmart. They're trying to intimidate and force people to give their private information over the phone.

These scammers can be sneaky and slick, but if you're paying attention, you can thwart their plan and ruin their day.

The Sheriff's Office has a few things for you to remember when you may question the motive of a caller.

If you're needed, our deputies will always come and speak with you in person with proper identification.

We will never contact you by phone to collect money or financial information.

We will never ask you to pay a fine by Venmo, PayPal, or gift card.

You should always ask the caller to provide a name and phone number to call them back and immediately call us at 307-235-9282 to verify this information.

These scammers have been known to prey on many different age groups, just hoping they can catch someone off guard.

With the Holiday Season underway, stress can be high and you may be off your game from time-to-time, so it's best not to answer calls from numbers you're not familiar with. It's also smart to talk with your children, parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors to make sure they're all aware of these scams.

If you have any concerns that you've been scammed, you can contact NCSO 307-235-9282.
