SACRAMENTO, Calif., — Kareem Mersal will represent the University of Wyoming Track & Field Team at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after qualifying in 12th in the Long Jump on Wednesday night at the NCAA West First Rounds.

Mersal went 25-1.5 in the event to take the 12th and final spot in the Long Jump for the NCAA Championship Meet to be held in Austin, Texas two weeks from toady. The Junior from Cairo, Egypt joins three other student athletes from the Mountain West in the event to make it to the NCAAs. This will be his first appearance at the Outdoor Championships. 

Cameron Burkett competed in his first NCAA West Preliminary Meet on Wednesday. The Freshman from Casper, Wyo., took 39th place in the Shot Put with a mark of 55-11.75. Burkett completes his first season in the Brown & Gold with the No. 6 mark in program history. 

Next up for the Pokes in California will be Ryker Holtzen and Seth Bruxvoort in the Steeplechase and Jacob White in the 5K on Friday evening.

The top 12 in both regions this week will move on to the 2023 NCAA Track & Field National Championships to be hosted in Austin Texas, from June 7th through the 10th.
