BOULDER, Colo., -- On a day where there were Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls competing across two different states, Jaymison Cox broke the school record in the 400M with a time of 47.46 at the Colorado Invitational.

Cox ran the school record time to the tune of a third place finish. He breaks the previous record of 47.68 ran in 2002 by Seth Billy. It is the second school record to go down in the span of three weeks as Mason Norman broke the 3000M record two weekends ago also in Boulder. 

In another impressive performance Norman set another personal record finishing in third during the Invitational 3000M with an altitude-converted time of 8:03.79, improving on his school record by tenths of a second. 

 

Texas Tech Open 

Long Jump

Hunter Brown and Kareem Mersal went down to the Lone Star State to compete in the Long Jump at the Texas Tech Open on Friday afternoon. 

Brown went first in the “B” Section and finished in sixth place hitting a mark of 23-8 on his sixth and final attempt of the day. Later on in the day, Mersal laced up his spikes and went 24-3.5 for a sixth place finish against his competitors. Mersal barely missed breaking into the UW top 10 list in the event by .25. 

 

Heptathlon

Sage Coventry competing in his first Heptathlon event of the year in the Texas Tech Multis in Lubbock was one point shy of his personal best which ranks No. 4 all time at UW. Coventry finished in 13th place amongst solid competition in the event that spanned Thursday to Friday. 

His marks in the seven events: 60 | 7.36, LJ | 22-1.5, SP | 42-6.25, HJ | 6-4.75, 60H | 8.62, PV | 12-5.5, 1000 | 2:50.97 

 

Colorado Invitational 

Jaymison Cox and Tay’Moro Powell-Peters went down to Boulder, Colo., to represent the sprinters on Friday. Cox took third in the event with his record-breaking time of 47.46. Powell-Peters ran the 60M dash going a time of 8.06 to finish the event in seventh place. 

The Cowboy and Cowgirl distance runners were most prominent today in Boulder participating in both the Mile and 3000M. 

In the men’s mile Asefa Wetzel and Ryker Holtzen went two-three for the Brown and Gold with times of 4:08.52 and 4:08.54 respectively. 

In the first men’s 3000M race of the evening Jacob White, Trevor Stephen and Josh Rodgers all showed up for the Cowboys. Finishing in second, third and fifth, White led the pack with a time of 8:20.30. 

During the women’s Invitational 3000M Kylie Simshauser ran a 9:45.63 for a seventh place finish. Simshauser was followed right behind by teammates Hailey Uhre and Leah Christians. 

In the final event of the night Katelyn Mitchem ran a 4:42.64 in the women’s Invitational Mile for a third place finish. Freshman Madelyn Blazo clocked a time of 4:48.57 for a fifth place finish. Blazo moves up to No. 4 all time on the UW top 10 list with her time.
