Islam Awareness Events Scheduled Through April 13

UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING PRESS RELEASE:

Events to raise awareness of Islamic culture are scheduled through Sunday, April 13, at the University of Wyoming.

The UW Muslim Student Association sponsors Islam Awareness Week, which includes panel discussions, poetry readings and a dinner. All events are free and open to the public.

An event scheduled for today (Wednesday) is a panel discussion, “Stories of American Muslims,” in the Wyoming Union Family Room from 6:30-8 p.m. Pizza will be provided.

Thursday, April 10, has been designated “Arab American Day,” with poetry, songs and calligraphy scheduled in the Cheney International Building basement from 5-6 p.m. Dinner will be provided.

A Juma Friday Pray -- a congregational prayer that Muslims hold each Friday just after noon -- is from 12:15-1:30 p.m. in the Wyoming Union West Yellowstone Ballroom.

The weeklong celebration concludes with a “Can Muslims Be Good U.S. Citizens?” panel discussion and awareness dinner Sunday, April 13, from 7-9 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Yellowstone Ballroom.

The event is free, but tickets are required, and can be obtained at the Wyoming Union information desk.
