As Chairman of the Western Governors’ Association, Governor Matt Mead has led a delegation of governors to Washington, D.C. this week.  He will testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Fisheries, Water and Wildlife, as well as the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources.

In the House, Governor Mead will discuss state ability and jurisdiction in energy development and resource management.  He will address the Endangered Species Act before the Senate.

“The Endangered Species Act is broken and changes need to be made. I am confident we can work with environmental groups and others to improve the Act,” said Governor Mead in a press release.  “There are also numerous ways the federal government can better engage with states and Western Governors will address them.”

Today, at noon Mountain Time, Governor Mead will begin testimony on the topic of “Improving the Endangered Species Act: Perspectives from the Fish and Wildlife Service and State Governors” before the Senate subcommittee.

At 10 a.m. tomorrow, he will testify before the House committee on the matter of “Respecting State Authority, Responsibilities and Expertise Regarding Management and Energy Development.”

“This is an opportunity for Western Governors to share insights directly with Congress,” Governor Mead said. “Western Governors have particular expertise in natural resources. We continue to work with our Congressional delegations on these issues.”
