Gabriela Martinez, a rising piano soloist, will perform a Cultural Programs concert Friday, April 4. The concert will be held in the University of Wyoming Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. She will be filling in for Italian pianist Davide Cabassi, who was unable to make the trip from Italy.

Tickets are $20 for the public, $17 for students and seniors, and are available at the Performing Arts and Wyoming Union box offices, or by calling (307) 766-6666.

Martinez, who delighted the audience when she performed at UW two years ago, will premiere a piece by composer Mason Bates, commissioned by UW Cultural Programs.

Martinez has gained international recognition for her impassioned performances. Since making her orchestral debut at age 7, she has appeared as a guest soloist with orchestras such as the Chicago, New Jersey, Fort Worth, Pacific and San Francisco symphonies, and the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s of music degrees at Juilliard as a full scholarship student.

“(Martinez) offered an elegant, tart and incisive performance,” says the New York Times.
