It’s pretty safe to say the University of Wyoming is the only school in the country with a D-1 wrestling program that has signed a redshirt freshman at 141 pounds who is also on a rodeo scholarship. Donny Proffit further made his situation one-of-a-kind by strapping in for a Saturday night to savor at the Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo hosted by Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne. Proffit won the bull riding first round and tied for the top spot bareback riding. He was a high school wrestler extraordinaire (four-time individual state champ) and rodeo rough-stock rider. Proffit’s from the southwest corner of the state and is the pride of Kemmerer/Diamondville. Donny really put a shine on Saturday scoring 74 points on his bull, 77 on the bareback ride earlier in the evening. The UW wrestling team began full practices this week which fits Profitt’s schedule well since the fall college rodeo season has now concluded.
