Additional Information

If you like to enjoy our national forests while participating in the management and conservation of local moose populations, then strap on your snowshoes or skis and gather your friends because it is time for Winter Moose Day 2020!

Join the Biodiversity Institute on February 15, 2020 in the Vedauwoo/Happy Jack area or Snowy Range outside of Laramie to help us track moose populations. Adopt a route, snowshoe or ski that route on February 15th, and record all observations of moose or signs of moose. In order to survey while moose are most active, surveys begin at dawn and must be finished by noon.

Moose Day data are given to Wyoming Game and Fish Department to aid in the management and conservation of moose in the area. Moose populations, summer and winter range, and reproductive success aren't well understood in this area of Wyoming. In addition, observations are loaded into iNaturalist for public viewing - you'll be able to view right away where moose were seen!

To participate in Winter Moose Day, please register for a route by February 8th. Routes are available on a first come, first served basis. View available routes and register for a survey here.

New participants must attend a required training on Wednesday, February 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the University of Wyoming’s Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center.

Please contact Mason Lee at mlee37@uwyo.edu if you have any questions about Moose Day!
