Additional Information

As the semester passes the halfway point, StudioWYO is thrilled to host a night of indie folk, featuring three eclectic bands who all call Laramie home.
Opening the evening is 4-piece group Not From Here, a new indie band headed up by local UWYO jazz student Dougan Smith. A stylistic departure from Dougan’s jazz quartet and the DS Initiative, Not From Here is heavily folk-inspired, with vocal harmonies reminiscent of Shakey Graves and The Head and The Heart.
Next up are The Lost Birds, the marriage of Going Nowhere’s Stan Miller and Ken Gerow and The Littlest Birds’ Sharon Martinson. Sharon generates “banjoy” with her clawhammer style and lovely singing and contributes original songs to the band repertoire. Stan is a lively rhythm guitar player and lovely singer; he knows approximately 762 songs (by Ken's count), so the group never runs out of material.
Ken thumps on the upright bass and is living proof that good harmony singers (see above) can make anyone sound good.
The Woodpile is a 5-piece “indie-folk-meets-rock-band” that combines conventional folk instrumentation, charming storytelling, and rich vocal harmony with beautiful cello melodies, complex arrangements, and dynamic composition that take the listener on a rousing, soft, somber, and reflective journey. The Woodpile has opened for nationally recognized acts such as Shook Twins and Dustbowl Revival in their hometown of Laramie WY. Wyoming Public Radio listeners voted their EP Hunting Hearts as one of the Top Ten Wyoming Albums of 2017. Following a summer full of touring, The Woodpile released their debut LP in August of 2019. StudioWYO is thrilled to have these talented folks back at the Gardens.
StudioWYO is a student-run program sponsored by Associated Students Technical Services (ASTEC).
