StudioWYO Presents: J Shogren Shanghai’d and Shawn Hess

For the last show before the Thanksgiving break, StudioWYO sure is thankful to host J Shogren Shanghai’d and Shawn Hess for a night of great Americana tunes.

Hailing from Laramie WY, Shawn Hess brings wit and humor along with wiser-than-his-years storytelling in his solo set. With a somber voice that hearkens back to traditional Western music and lyricism that stirs the soul, Shawn always brings a sense of intimacy and reflection that captivates audiences. He has previously appeared at StudioWYO with The Country Skillet, Tie Hack, Elk Tongue, and has hosted Open Mic on several occasions. You can find Shawn’s work at shawnhess.bandcamp.com.

J Shogren is “an affable bear of a man” (NYT), a “brilliant storyteller” (Rootsy), and a “Wyoming music legend” (WY Eagle) whose songs have taken him from the local bar scene to the Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center. In a voice “like one of those great bluesmen from ninety years ago” (Oliver di Place), his dark humuous stories are “endearingly eclectic” and “like a garden full of wildflowers.” His catawampus songwriting explores roots and traditional music filtered through a contemporary dissonant transmitter: “Americana at its best” (Village Records).
