Come relive history and see Butch Cassidy arrive at prison.

Butch Cassidy Day recognizes the 125th anniversary of Cassidy’s incarceration at the Wyoming State Penitentiary at Laramie, July 12.

The day’s activities will be from 3 – 7 p.m. with gun fighters at 3:30, and Cassidy re-enactment at 4 p.m.

There will be a special appearance by Robert Fuller, star of TV western series “Laramie”. See the new Winchester Rifle exhibit. At 5 p.m. a special showing of the iconic, Academy Award movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” will take place in the horse barn theater. Food vendors will be on site.

Admission for the day is $7 for adults; youth ages 12-17 $3.50; children 11 and younger free. Wyoming State Parks Annual Daily Use permits and Wyoming Lifetime Veteran permits are honored as free admission.

Robert Leroy Parker, “Butch Cassidy”, was sentenced on July 12, 1894 for two years in the State Penitentiary at Laramie for Grand Larceny (horse stealing). On January 19, 1896 Cassidy was pardoned by Governor Richards because of an unjust trial. The pardon did not reform Cassidy. What could not be foreseen was he would meet the Sundance Kid, form the Wild Bunch Gang, and Butch Cassidy would become one of the most elusive, dangerous, and successful outlaws in the history of the American West.
