The Wyoming Cowgirls utilized a strong inside presence and tough defense to beat San Diego State 54-36 Thursday night in Laramie.

The Cowgirls pulled away in the second half, as they shot 55 percent from the field, while UW held the Aztecs to 30 percent shooting for the game.

Wyoming (7-7, 5-6) received a career-high 19 points from Dagny Davidsdottir and a career-best 12 points off the bench by Marta Savic.

Neither team did much in the first half, but UW held a 19-13 lead at the break.

The Cowgirls outscored San Diego State 22-11 to start the second half, which allowed them to take control.

Wyoming used its edge inside and had 44 points in the paint to just eight for the Aztecs.

San Diego State (5-9, 3-5) was paced by Mallory Adams with 12 points.

The same two teams play again on Saturday at the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. You can listen to the game on KOWB (AM 1290).

The Pokes were rocked at San Diego State on Thursday night, losing 87-57 to the Aztecs.

Wyoming (10-6, 4-5) allowed a Mountain West Conference record 63 points in the first half.

San Diego State (12-4, 6-3) shot 65 percent from the field in the first half. The Aztecs were at 55 percent for the game. Jordan Schakel led four players in double figures with 16 points.

Kwane Marble led the Cowboys with 15 points.

UW led 5-2 in the first minute of the game. San Diego State outscored the Pokes 31-8 over the next nine minutes. The lead reached 41 points in the second half.
