The University of Wyoming Cowgirls got swept on the volleyball court Tuesday night by the seventh-ranked Colorado State Rams.

In front of a packed Uni-Wyo Sports Complex, CSU rolled to a three-set win over the Cowgirls by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-23.

Wyoming head coach Chad Callihan said,

“I thought the tone was set in the first 15 points. We just didn’t ever really recover from it.”

Colorado State (17-1, 5-0) hit .343 for the match. The Rams were led by Kelsey Snider and Jasmine Hanna with 15 and 14 kills, respectively.

The Cowgirls were led by Laura Beach and Kayla Slofkiss with eight kills apiece. Wyoming (13-5, 2-3) hit only .167 on the night.

In the first set, the score was tied at seven. Then, CSU utilized an 11-1 run and opened up a 16-8 advantage. They closed out the set 25-16. UW had the same amount of kills, as errors, in the set, with nine each.

Wyoming junior Kayla Henderson, who had seven kills, said, “I think we just started off a little nervous, maybe. It took us some time just to get our composure, and then finally just play. By that time, I feel like, they got their lead ahead of us too much.”

Set two saw the Cowgirls jump out to a 12-3 lead that prompted a timeout by the Rams. That lead evaporated quickly, as Colorado State rallied and tied it at 15. They took their first lead at 21-20 and closed out the set at 25-21.

The Rams jumped out to an 8-4 edge in the third set. UW managed to tie it at 13, but never took the lead. CSU was able to hold off all Cowgirl challenges and finished the match with a third set win, 25-23.

Callihan added, “We worked hard, but when you’re playing a good team, great team, you just have to be prepared. It’s gotta be everybody’s all in. I felt like we had two or three pieces that were working pretty well tonight, but the full team effort wasn’t there.”

The Cowgirls return to action Thursday versus Fresno State. The match will start at 7 p.m. in the Uni-Wyo Sports Complex.
