After a terrific non-conference slate, the Wyoming Cowgirls will begin action in the Mountain West tonight and Saturday.

Wyoming (10-2) will face Boise State (8-4) at 6:30 tonight. They'll take on Utah State (4-10) on Saturday evening, also at 6:30. Both matches are in the Uni-Wyo Sports Complex.

For a second straight season, the Cowgirls have at least ten wins before the start of conference action. They're also coming off their second tournament title of the season.

Head coach Chad Callihan said he would describe his team's pre-conference as playing with a great deal of grit.

"I don't know that we've ever put together a great match, in terms of both offense and defense. I think that defensively we've been good in quite a few matches this year, but our offense hasn't clicked the way it has in the past."

The Cowgirls are sporting some great balance. Junior Kayla Slofkiss leads the team with 121 kills, while junior Laura Beach and senior Bridget Shanahan have 116 and 111, respectively.

Wyoming realizes they'll be put to the test right away in MW play.

Shanahan said, "It's a very competitive league. I think that people a lot of times underestimate the Mountain West, but I definitely think we're a force to be reckoned with."

UW opens against a Broncos squad that returns four all-conference players and has won seven of its last eight matches.

Shanahan added, "Boise State's definitely up there (among MW volleyball teams)... They're very good offensively, so I think that it'll be a great match."
