The Wyoming Cowboys lost their second straight game in a 60-53 defeat at home to Cal State Fullerton Wednesday night in Laramie.

Wyoming (1-2) rallied from an 11-point deficit with six minutes left. An 11-1 run trimmed the Titans lead to 54-53, but Cal State Fullerton scored the final six points of the game on a jumper and four three throws.

Hunter Maldonado led UW with 15 points. Jake Hendricks scored 13 and TJ Taylor added 10 off the bench. UW had scoring droughts of 3:34, 6:14, and 3:24 from the field. Maldonado came up lame at the end of the game, but it was just cramping.

The Cowboys started the game down 9-0. Then, they went on a 12-3 run and tied it at 12-12. A 10-0 spurt by the Pokes gave Wyoming their biggest lead of 28-20 with 2:30 left in the first half. UW had a 30-25 lead at halftime.

Cal State Fullerton (1-2) started the second half on an 18-5 run. That gave the Titans a 43-35 lead with 9:51 left. Cal State Fullerton pushed their advantage to 53-42 with 6:12 left.

Both teams shot 39 percent for the game. The Titans scored 20 points off 15 Wyoming turnovers.

Wayne Arnold led Cal State Fullerton with 20 points, which included six 3-pointers. Austen Awosika added 18 points.

This was the Titans’ first victory over the Cowboys in men’s basketball.

UW returns to action Saturday when they host Oregon State at 7 p.m. in Laramie.
