A Colorado family faced a tragedy on Christmas (Dec. 25) when their dog died after falling through the ice at a local pond.

According to a Facebook post from South Metro Fire Rescue, the incident occurred around 12:38 p.m. at Cheese Ranch Park in Highlands Ranch, when firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting that an English Bulldog was trapped underneath the ice.

Upon arrival, Rescue Divers performed an underwater search and located the animal. Despite CPR attempts, officials were unable to revive the dog.

"This incident is a tragic reminder that no ice is safe ice. If you see a person or pet fall through the ice, never attempt to rescue them on your own," read the post. "Call 911 immediately and remain on shore."

In an ice incident, officials will be able to use witness accounts to quickly locate any victims.
