A 36-year-old Cheyenne man is facing several charges after allegedly robbing a gas station clerk at gunpoint.

Nicholas Schwartz was arrested on Aug. 1 after reportedly admitting to police that he "robbed" the Kum & Go at 215 E. Lincolnway and pointed an "air soft gun" at the clerk.

According to an affidavit, Schwartz took roughly $500 from the till and ran off down an alley, discarding the gun and the clothing he wore during the robbery.

He then returned to the scene and told police that he'd been "robbed" of his cell phone, which was later found in the pocket of the jeans he'd discarded.

Police say Schwartz gave them permission to search the car he drove and they found 2.3 grams of suspected crack, a crack pipe and $240 in the trunk.

Schwartz told police that he'd recently lost his job and robbed the Kum & Go because he needed the money.

He also stated that the crack belonged to a drug dealer and that he owed the man $300 for drugs, but he refused to give police the dealer's name.

Schwartz was charged with aggravated robbery, felony possession of crack and false reporting. If convicted, he could face five to 32 years in prison.

Schwartz is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $20,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 10 at 11 a.m.
