Cheyenne Bans Open Burning
Extremely dry and windy conditions have prompted Cheyenne Fire and Rescue to restrict open burning within city limits.
"We're just really concerned because it's not getting any better and it's just getting really dry quick," said Fire Chief Jim Martin. "We're trying to head off any issues before they become a big issue."
Unlike the county burn ban that was imposed earlier this week, Martin says city residents can still use their barbecue grills they just can't use fire pits and chimineas.
"They just have to make sure they are attended and use clean, dry wood and charcoal and have an extinguisher or water hose handy in case it gets out of hand," said Martin.
Martin says the department has already responded to several grass and brush fires and "conditions are going to have to get better" before the city lifts the burn ban.
