UPDATE, 11:09 a.m.: In a statement on social media just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Natrona County Fire Protection District is reporting that the fire is out. In total, the blaze consumed 1.7 acres of grass. Firefighters called the fire out at 10:37 a.m.

According to the statement, the fire was caused by embers from a controlled being blown into the grass. Two vehicles were "impacted" by the heat of the fire but did not catch on fire.

In addition to the Natrona County Fire District, crews from Evansville Fire-EMS and the BLM responded to the fire. The fire district reminds the public to make sure any tall grasses are cut down near structures, vehicles or controlled burns and to obtain the proper burn permit before conducting controlled burns.

Other than saying that Evansville Fire-EMS and the BLM are assisting with the fire, the Natrona County Fire Protection District did not release further details.

Craig Short, assistant fire management officer for the BLM High Plains District, told K2 Radio News that the fire was reported off of Geary Dome Road and was one half-acre in size.

Short said that one BLM engine responded to assist with the blaze, while the county fire district is the agency leading the response.

The district is asking people to avoid the area and said that more information will be released as it becomes available.
