UPDATE - 3:01 P.M.: More information is coming to light, as positive COVID-19 cases appear to be the cause of the cancellation.

Converse County School District No. 1 posted two releases on the homepage of its website in the last two days, which cite positive COVID cases at both Douglas Intermediate School and Douglas High School. The releases say two staff members at the Intermediate School, a student at the Intermediate School, and two students at the High School were part of 10 cases that the school district was notified of by the Converse County Health Department.

A top-five matchup in Class 3A football has been called off this Friday with no details provided at this time.

The top-ranked Powell Panthers were scheduled to play the fifth-ranked Bearcats in Douglas on Friday at 6 p.m.

WyoPreps received an email from Douglas Athletic Director Douglas Hughes on Wednesday afternoon announcing, "the two schools have agreed to cancel the game."

Hughes told WyoPreps via email, “I don’t have any further information at this time.”

WyoPreps will update this story when more information becomes available.

Wyoming has already had one game called off due to COVID-19 in the 2020 season. That was the week 1 game between Buffalo and Newcastle. Both of those teams played last week.
