A Strange Sight: Laramie Will Play a Home Football Game [VIDEO]

Playing at home for the first time in six weeks, the Laramie Plainsmen take on the Cheyenne South Bison Friday night at Deti Stadium.

Laramie (1-6) has lost their last five games, all of which were on the road. That occurred after an air quality issue moved the Kelly Walsh home game on Sept. 25 to Casper on Sept. 26.

The last time the Plainsmen played at Deti Stadium was on Sept. 4, when they beat Campbell County, 35-22. Since then, LHS has lost to Natrona, Cheyenne East, Kelly Walsh, Rock Springs, and Thunder Basin.

Laramie head coach Clint Reed and KOWB’s David Settle joked about being back at home at the start of the video interview above. They also talked about struggles on defense, getting ready for the Bison, and more.

The Plainsmen have the No. 1 rusher in Class 4A with Isaac Sell. He is averaging 174.9 yards per game with 11 total touchdowns scored this season. Jake Vigen is at 99.4 yards per game passing. He has 4 four TD passes and 4 interceptions. Gavin Kopp and Graham Jacques continue to be the top defenders ranking 10th and 12t in 4A in defensive points per game.

Cheyenne South (0-7) is led by junior QB Braeden Hughes. He runs for nearly 66 yards and throws for 35 yards per game. Hughes is also the punter and fourth in defensive points. Gabe Trujillo leads the Bison with 46 defensive points.

Statistically, these teams are the bottom two in 4A in total offense, though Laramie averages nearly 100 yards more per game than South, 291-to-196. They also struggle on defense, where they are 9th and 10th. The Plainsmen allow 471 yards and 42.9 points per game, while the Bison give up 489 yards and 58 points per game.

One key area to watch, Cheyenne South allows 316 rushing yards per game, last in 4A, while that is Laramie’s strength. They average 192 rush yards per game, which ranks fourth in the class.

The Bison won last year’s game in a shootout in Cheyenne, 36-35. The all-time series favors LHS, 7-2.

Kick-off is at 6 p.m. on Friday.
