2017 Beartrap Summer Festival Headliners Announced
The 2017 Beartrap Summer Festival is set for August 5th and 6th in Beartrap Meadow on Casper Mountain. This year’s line-up brings more variety than ever to one of Wyoming’s biggest music festivals. The emphasis is still on Americana music, including Sunday’s headliner, Wynonna and the Big Noise. Festivarians can also hear many other local and regional rising stars, bringing a mix of Folk, Blues, Bluegrass, Country, and Rock to the Hilltop National Bank Stage.
Wynonna has been a powerful force in Country Music since the 1980’s. Teaming up with mother Naomi as The Judds, the duo received five GRAMMY Awards, 14 Number One singles and sold over twenty million units worldwide. Wynonna launched a successful solo career in the early 90’s, with her self-titled debut album earning a 5x Multi-Platinum certification and her first three singles reaching No. 1 on the Country charts.
The Big Noise has been Wynonna’s band since 2011. Their 2016 album received high praise: “Wynonna's in the big field now. But she was always there anyway, with her magnificently versatile alto and penchant for both belting and swooning. With her tight band behind her after touring together for several years, she just sounds like she's home.”
Saturday’s headliner, Joan Osborne, brings a taste of something new to Beartrap. Best known for her debut hit “One of Us,” Osborne has collected 7 Grammy nominations and a reputation for venturing fearlessly into multiple musical styles, from blues to roots to Motown. She has appeared at major venues including Lilith Fair and Austin City Limits, collaborates as part of the group Trigger Hippy, and will release a new album of Bob Dylan songs this spring.
There’ll also be lots for bluegrass fans to love, from traditional to newgrass. Bands include Wood and Wire, Parsonsfield, Woodshed Red, Good Time Travelers, Head for the Hills, and the Railsplitters. Wyoming musicians will be well represented by the Cory McDaniel Duo, Red Butte, and 10 Cent Stranger. The Patti Fiasco, a band that got its start in Wyoming and is now based in Fort Collins, brings the rock to the party.
Beartrap offers more to do than listen to great music. There’s a family area with loads of activities for kids, a marketplace of vendors showcasing handcrafted items, a fresh-air food court featuring local favorites including products from Budweiser, a VIP area, and tent camping in the meadow-where music fans and musicians can gather to jam out after the sun goes down- continuing the festivities long into the evening.
Thousands of people come to Beartrap every August to soak up the sun while live music rings throughout the meadow.
