For the first time in his career, Wyoming sophomore Sam Turner received Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors Wednesday.

Turner won the 141-pound weight class at the Reno Tournament of Champions last Thursday. He beat five opponents, including No. 9 ranked Kaid Brock Oklahoma State in the semifinals on his way to the title. Turner was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament.

Turner is 14-8 on the season. He and the Cowboys return to the mat Saturday and Sunday in Fort Lauderdale, FL for the South Beach Duals. Wyoming will wrestle against No. 4 NC State, No. 6 Cornell, Michigan State, and SIU-Edwardsville.

Turner is the third Cowboy to earn the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honor this season. He joins junior Cole Verner (Nov. 19) and senior Branson Ashworth (Nov. 26), who received the accolade earlier this year.
