‘Wyoming Voices’ Coming To Laramie

Readers will explore ideas of wilderness and wildness from a range of perspectives during Wyoming Voices events this month in Laramie and Ucross.

Wyoming Voices features readings, stories, presentations and reflections from Wyoming writers, artists, students and scientists. The Laramie event will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in the University of Wyoming Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center. The Ucross reading will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Ucross Foundation, Big Red Barn.

Both events are free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception with hors d'oeuvres and refreshments.

Readers at the Laramie event include WyoFile reporter Greg Nickerson; coyote researcher Marjie MacGreggor; American Indian Studies Professor Caskey Russell; School of Environment and Natural Resources student Alin Badillo-Carillo; and Mad Dog and the Pilgrim Bookstore owners Lynda German and Polly Hinds. UW professor and poet Harvey Hix will serve as emcee.

Attendees of the Ucross event will hear from Sheridan-based poet Jane Wohl, WyoFile reporter and Big Horn native Nickerson; past Ucross resident and Wyoming Outdoor Council staff member Stefani Farris; and Russell. Susie Cannon of Big Horn will be the emcee.

“Wyoming Voices is a wonderful collaboration and makes for a lively and thought-provoking event,” says Emilene Ostlind, communications coordinator with the UW Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. “We have a strong lineup of readers this year, and I encourage anyone who has an interest in Wyoming’s landscapes to attend. This event is always interesting and enlightening.”

Hosts for Wyoming Voices are the UW Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, the UW MFA Program in Creative Writing and the Wyoming Outdoor Council. Each year the event brings presenters who might not usually share a platform together to reflect on a theme related to Wyoming’s people and natural world.
