Wyoming Teenager Killed in Crash Near Sheridan

A Wyoming 19-year-old is dead after a crash east of Sheridan that may have been the result of a medical issue.

Zachary Gibbs of Arvada died sometime between late Thursday and early Friday. The Wyoming Highway Patrol found out about the crash at 6:29 a.m. Friday morning, according to a press release.

The Patrol says Gibbs was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado east on US 14 when, about 12 miles southeast of Sheridan near mile post 12, the truck drifted off the right shoulder. The pickup was overcorrected to the left and went into a spin. As it spun, the Chevy left the highway to the north, where it tripped and rolled.

Gibbs was not wearing his seatbelt, but was not thrown from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

The Patrol is investigating alcohol use, driver fatigue and a possible medical issue as factors that may have contributed to the crash.

Gibbs was the 80th person killed on Wyoming highways in 2016. During the same time period in 2015, there were 108 highway deaths statewide.
