Wyoming Men’s Hoops Program Lost Nearly $75K Playing in CBI
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — It cost the Wyoming men’s basketball program nearly $75,000 to win the College Basketball Invitational tournament.
Bill Sparks, senior associate athletic director of business operations, says the school lost nearly $41,000 hosting its first two games and paid over $33,000 of the $64,000 cost of traveling to the first game in the best-of-three championship series against Coastal Carolina.
Most of the losses were due to the $40,000 cost of hosting each of the two first-round games that were not offset by ticket revenue and concessions. Wyoming did not have to pay the CBI tournament to host the next three games.
Coach Allen Edwards says the tournament gave the team added practice time and game experience as it prepares for the 2017-18 season.
