Don Day is more than our weatherman. He’s the meteorologist they bring in for major events, such as what happened last Saturday, July 30, 2016. Luke Aikin was the first man in history to jump out of a plane without a parachute and land in a net on the ground.

Falling from 25,000 feet and targeting a 200 foot by 200 foot net is mighty tricky business. To make sure this would be as safe and accurate as possible, they brought in our favorite meteorologist, Don Day. He knows Wyoming weather better than anyone, but the stunt was in Simi Valley, California where the smog from Los Angeles could have forced the cancellation of the feat. Luckily, the fire there had gone out just in time and the light wind helped to clear the air.

Launching his own weather balloon an hour before hand, Don had accurate high resolution knowledge of conditions aloft and on the ground. He made sure conditions were within parameters.

The event was carried live on Fox.

You may recall Felix Baumgartner’s stratosphere jump from 24 miles above the Earth on Oct. 14, 2012. Felix became the first skydiver to break the speed of sound, and Don Day was there to help make that bit of history as well.

Congratulations to Don Day for his contributions to history in the making.
