A Wyoming inmate who was convicted of murder in 2010 died over the weekend at a Mississippi prison.

Charles Edward Jones, 38, died of an apparent suicide at Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Mississippi, according to Wyoming Department of Corrections spokesman Mark Horan.

Horan says Jones was sentenced on Nov. 17, 2010, by Laramie County District Court Judge Peter G. Arnold to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Jones had been convicted of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

Jones was a native of Memphis, Tennessee.

The death is being investigated by the Wyoming Department of Corrections, the facility and local law enforcement. An autopsy has been ordered in accordance with department policy.

Wyoming's correctional department has contracted with the correctional facility since April. As of Monday, 89 Wyoming inmates are housed there due to limited bed space and a growing prison population.
