Despite the efforts of over 150 volunteers, a search Saturday for a missing Rock Springs man turned up no clues as to his whereabouts, according to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell.

74-year-old Terry Meador of Rock Springs was reported missing to the Rock Springs Police Department on October 25 after failing to return from a solo hunting trip. His unoccupied vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet pickup (see photo), was found badly stuck 2 3/4 miles north fo the summit of Pine Mountain.

Ground units, fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter searches on and around Pine Mountain on October 26, 27 and 28 were unsuccessful, as were further ground and fixed-wing aircraft on October 29 and 30. Searchers again convened on Saturday at 7 a.m. in the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department training room. Search teams were created, provided with maps and assigned to specific search areas.

The search was completed Saturday afternoon, with all searchers accounted for by 4 p.m. ahead of an expected winter storm in the area.

The sheriff said the total area covered by all of the searchers for Meador since he was reported missing includes over 60 square miles.

Sheriff Lowell said Sunday that he knows people will want to continue to look for Meador, but says anyone doing so should be well-equipped and should carefully plan for possible bad weather.

He also encouraged searchers to let someone know where they will be going and when they expect to return.
