CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming education officials have adopted emergency rules for evaluating the performance of school district leaders.

The state Board of Education on Thursday adopted the temporary rules, which will remain in effect for 120 days.

Megan Degenfelder, chief policy officer for the state Department of Education, says the rules set up a state evaluation system and require each school district to decide if they will use that system or create their own.

The state system sets seven benchmarks for which to evaluate administrators. District officials must use the first benchmark of "clear and consistent focus on maximizing the learning and growth of all students."

The board must pass permanent rules by the end of the emergency period.
