Wyoming Cowgirls Run Past Fresno State, 87-76

Kaitlyn Mileto scored 21 points and Kayla Woodward added another 20, as the Wyoming Cowgirls downed the Fresno State Bulldogs 87-76 Wednesday night at the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowgirls soldified their perfect record in Mountain West play at home.

Wyoming (13-5, 4-3) went on an 18-3 run over six minutes of the first half. That broke the game open for UW and they never led by less than 10 points the rest of the way. The spurt gave the Cowgirls a 31-16 lead at the 9:09 mark. Fresno State managed a small run of their own and pulled within 33-23 with 6:21 left in the first half. Wyoming held strong and led 44-30 at half.

The second half saw the Cowgirls stretch their advantage to 20 points with 7:29 left on a Jordan Sibrel lay-up. Fresno never seriously threatened, and UW moved to 4-0 at home in conference action. Woodward poured in 13 points in the second half.

The victory was also the 600th in program history.

Wyoming also got 14 points from Fallon Lewis. They shot 49.2 percent (31-63) from the field, were 9-20 (45%) from 3-point range and finished 16-22 (72.7%) at the line. The Cowgirls also got 16 points off their bench.

Fresno State (12-8, 6-3) was led by Taylor Thompson with 17 points, while Jacinta Vandenberg added 15 points. The Bulldogs shot 29-70 (41.4%) from the floor, 5-13 from deep (38.5%) and 13-17 (76.5%) at the stripe. They out-rebounded UW 39-38.

The Cowgirls will seek their first road win in Mountain West Conference play Saturday at Utah State. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start.
