A big game is on the horizon for the University of Wyoming Cowboys football team, as they host Florida Atlantic Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.

Wyoming (2-1) is seeking a 3-1 start and their fourth consecutive victory at home Saturday afternoon.

The opponent is the Florida Atlantic Owls (1-2) out of Conference USA. They will become the first team from the state of Florida to ever play in Laramie.

This will be the second meeting on the gridiron between these two teams. Their first meeting was five years ago, and the Cowboys came out on top 30-28.

The Pokes continue to be led by their dynamic duo on the ground, in junior Shaun Wick and redshirt sophomore D.J. May. Wick is averaging 97.7 yards per game, which is good for fourth in the Mountain West. Between rushing, receiving and kick returns, May is contributing 122.7 yards per game, which is fifth in the MW in all-purpose yards.

On the defensive side, senior Mark Nzeocha is second in the MW at 10.7 tackles per game.

This will already be the third road trip of the season for the Owls. They’ve lost at Nebraska, 55-7, and at Alabama, 41-0. FAU turned it around last week with key plays in every phase of the game in a 50-21 blowout over Tulsa.

Florida Atlantic is keyed by dual threat QB Jaquez Johnson, who is among the school’s career leaders in passing and rushing yards. His main weapons are receivers Lucky Whitehead and Jenson Stoshak.

The Owls are led by safety Damian Parms with 8.7 tackles per game.

The game is slated for a 2 p.m. kick-off from War Memorial Stadium.
