The second major power outage to affect Laramie residents yesterday, Dec.19 occurred at 11:29 p.m.

According to Margaret Oler of the Rocky Mountain Power newsroom, the second  outage affected 2,100 customers in Laramie.  Oler said that Rocky Mountain Power was able to help restore power to customers at 12:36 a.m.

“Crews patrolled the line, found no specific cause for that and the crew was able to close the breaker back in,” Oler said.

Dave Eskelsen of the Rocky Mountain Power newsroom said winter weather was likely the cause of the outage.

Eskelsen said that during a “loss of transmission,” protective devices in substations open a breaker as a precaution when they detect a disturbance on the line. Eskelsen the duration of an outage such as this one is the crews patrolling the line and substations in order to find physical problems.

Laramie experienced another outage earlier in the night at 7:20 p.m. Rocky Mountain Power also labeled that outage as a loss of transmission and was able to restore power at 9:25 p.m.
