UW Engineering Students Showcase Work in Design Symposium

A panel of experts will judge entries by more than 100 students during the University of Wyoming College of Engineering and Applied Science Senior Design Symposium Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Wyoming Union upper level and in Rooms 1060 and 1062 of the Engineering Building.

The electrical and computer science presentations start at 8 a.m. in Room 1062 of the Engineering Building. Projects include an automated pet feeding system and a wireless control network for the disabled.

The civil engineering projects, with a focus on environmental issues, will be presented starting at 8 a.m. in the Wyoming Union West Ballroom. Projects include one that removes arsenic poisoning and the design of the “Blue Sky Highway” near Ethete.

In the Wyoming Union Family Room at 8 a.m., the students will explain their chemical engineering projects, including clean air power and blood analysis with microchips.

Petroleum engineering projects will be judged in the Wyoming Union Senate Chambers at 9 a.m. Projects encompass topics ranging from oil recovery to reservoir simulations.

Architectural engineering projects will be presented at 1 p.m. in the Wyoming Union West Ballroom. The redesign for the Laramie Train Museum and a two-story office addition are the focus of these presentations.

Also, at 1 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Family Room, computer engineering projects will be judged, including a student information service and faculty search tools.

"The Senior Design Symposium provides our graduating seniors the opportunity to defend their capstone design project to a panel of judges,” says Steve Barrett, associate dean of academic programs. “It also provides families an opportunity to see the high level of achievement of our student engineers and scientists."
