Laramie saw an influx of University of Wyoming freshmen Thursday to take up residence on campus.

Eric Webb, executive director of UW's Residence Life, Dining Services & the lower level of the Wyoming Union Washakie Center, says roughly 1,750 students will be staying in the dorms this year.

With the slight drop in over all enrollment, Webb says the number of students in UW residence halls is "down ever so slightly, but pretty close year-to-year."

"So far, it's been going really well," Webb says.

UW President Laurie Nichols was on hand Thursday to greet new students as they pushed carts full of dorm room furnishings, crammed into elevators and unpacked in their temporary homes.

"There's a hub of activity," Nichols says. "It brings tons of activity to campus and it's very exciting."

Laramie residents can expect plenty of traffic on city streets and in local restaurants throughout the weekend as students continue to move in and explore the Gem City.
