Throughout March, the University of Wyoming's Disability support groups will host  activities that depict the diversity and experiences of people with disabilities.

Wyoming Institute for Disabilities and the UW student organization, Abilities, work to assist people with developmental disabilities. They provide community services and trainings for  families, professionals and UW students.  Megan Darrow, president of Abilities, explains the importance of events that highlight disability awareness: Megan Darrow Clip

March 10 at 2 p.m.
Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) will present “Disability Rights--Why They Matter," in the Union Family Room. WIND’s project coordinators Kendall Corbett and Janet Corbett are speakers for the event.

Week of March 24
During the month of March, nominations will be accepted for the Extra Mile Award. The award honors faculty and staff who go above and beyond in assisting students with disabilities. The last day for final nominations is March 14;  winners will receive their certificates during the week of March 24.

March 25
Abilities is set to host a panel discussion with students who have disabilities. The students will discuss their hopes and dreams, aswell as the different obstacles they face. The panel will be held in the Wyoming Union Family room from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

April
Shepard Symposium on Social Justice marks the final event. The symposium, named for Matthew Shepard, will  consist of 45 sessions which focus on  issues  of social justice and explore means to overcome daily oppressions. One such session, “Crown and Camo: Making the ADA Work for You,” is a presentation  by Ashlee Lundvall of Cody--Ms. Wheelchair USA. This event begins at 3 p.m. on April 4.
