University of Wyoming Anthropologist Interviewed For New PBS Series

Those familiar with professors at the University of Wyoming may see a familiar face on PBS in June.

Nicole Waguespack, an associate professor in UW’s Department of Anthropology, was interviewed for a segment of the five-part documentary “First Peoples” which is scheduled to premiere Wednesday, June 24 on PBS television.

In the interview, which took place at Okotoks in Alberta, Canada, Waguespack discusses the initial colonization of North America.

“I talked about possible entry routes, specifically passing through the Alberta region near the ice margins and the archaeological record associated with this time period,” she says. “It was a fun trip, and I think it will be a well-produced show.”

The series tells the story of how Homo sapiens moved around the globe and became the dominant human species. Each episode focuses on a different continent.

The program will air Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on June 24 and July 1 and then at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8.

This isn’t the first time Waguespack has appeared on a televised show. A specialist in the archaeology of hunting and gathering populations in North America, she appeared on the History Channel’s 2013 “Big History” series.
