LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees is seeking further study into a tuition waiver request involving Native American students.

Members of the Northern Arapaho Business Council have requested that the trustees waive tuition for any Northern Arapaho qualifying for the Northern Arapaho Scholarship.

The scholarship has provided financial assistance for members of the tribe since it was established in 1986. However, the number of qualified applicants for the award exceeded the endowment's capacity this academic year.

The board's academic and student affairs committee will study the issue further to get a clearer picture of the challenges, resources and demographics of Native American students.
